Description
Spiga di grano - Three ears of corn/mais hang on a shutter in the ancient Tuscan hill-town of Cortona.
Corn is not originally from Italy but was known in Venice through Eastern trade routes around 1400, shortly before Columbus discovered America. Later, corn/mais arrived in Italy in 1530 both in the Veneto region, then in the Kingdom of Naples and then in the Papal state and became quite popular.
