Description
Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) is a native evergreen twining climber boasting a profusion of sweetly scented, butter-yellow or deep golden-yellow, trumpet flowers, 1.5 in. across (3 cm). They bloom in late winter to early spring. Carolina Jessamine, also known as yellow jasmine, yellow jessamine, Carolina jasmine,or evening trumpet flower, can be found climbing trees, scrambling over fences and garden structures, or trailing along the ground to form a carpet. Carolina jessamine is the official flower of South Carolina. Sometimes, they may be unseen high in the top of a tall tree except for the flowers that, a day or two after opening, wither and drop to the ground dotting the forest floor with bright yellow, tubular flowers.
