Description
Ljubljana Castle is one of the Slovenian capital's main attractions. The medieval fortress is a museum, a venue and several restaurants. Atop a 375m (1230 ft) high hill east of the Old Town, the Castle is a jumble of architectural styles, mostly dating from the early 16th century when it was largely rebuilt after a devastating earthquake. Its main purpose was to defend Ljubljana from the Ottoman invasions, which were pretty common in the 15th and 16th centuries in the Slovenian area at the time.
