Description
Legend has it an invading Norse army was attempting to sneak up on a sleeping party of Scottish warriors when a barefoot Norseman had the misfortune to step upon a thistle, causing him to yell in pain. The Scots were alerted to their presence, defeated the invaders, and adopted the thistle as their national symbol. Cirsium spp. or common thistle.
