Above the door is carved the date "1600" in Ribeauvillé (ree-bow-veel-lay) France, a beautiful medieval town at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. It is partly surrounded by ancient walls, with many picturesque medieval buildings. It is situatedaround 10 miles (16 km) north of Colmar and 47 miles (75 km) south of Strasbourg.
