Description
Dating back to 1650 Rydal Hall Estate, at the very heart of the English Lake District near Ambleside, is set in over thirty acres of garden, woodland and natural beauty. The extensive grounds include formal gardens designed by Thomas Mawson, a Victorian Ice-house, an 18th century Game Larder, and The Grot, or grotto built in 1668 by Sir Daniel Fleming and designed as a place to frame and enjoy the spectacular Rydal Falls. It is one of Britain’s earliest examples of a viewing station.
