Description
The Lightner Museum is a museum of antiques, mostly American Gilded Age pieces, housed within the former historic Hotel Alcazar building in downtown St. Augustine.
Originally The Hotel Alcazar, the magnificent example of Spanish Renaissance architecture building was built by railroad tycoon and hotel developer Henry Flagler. The eclectic collection of costumes, furnishings, mechanical musical instruments and collections bring back thoughts of the grand Gilded Age, a tumultuous period of gross materialism and political corruption between the Civil War and the turn of the twentieth century.
