Artist's Description

Handsome Anhinga drying its wings for the next dive. The Anhinga swims underwater stabbing fish with its daggerlike bill, then perches in a nearby tree to dry its wet feathers. Surfacing from their dives while fishing for a meal, they swim through the water with only their long-necked heads poking above the surface leading to their common name - snakebird. Also known as a water turkey they should not be confused with cormorants, another swimming bird.
This image was made in the Circle B Bar Reserve, located near Lakeland, Florida, about halfway between Orlando and Tampa. Its beautifully maintained trails through Live Oak forests, and marshes lie along the shores of Lake Hancock, with its healthy population of big alligators. It is especially fantastic for birding from fall through spring, when nature photographers flock there to capture images of the dozens of bird species that live there or are just passing through.

About W Chris Fooshee

W Chris Fooshee

'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.' ~ Marcel Proust, writer, Paris, 1871-1922. My photographs are not merely a record of what was before my camera, but rather my visualization of the place and time as I remember discovering it, be it a particular mood, impression, or ambiance. These images may bring back memories of your own travels or they might inspire, you in some small way to venture off and maybe discover exciting, new landscapes of your own. But in the meantime, consider placing one of these photographs on your wall as a window to foreign lands. A note to those who purchase one of my images, you have my deepest thanks. I am honored that you have chosen one of my photographs...
