Toledo, Spain's impressive Puente de San Martín (St Martin’s Bridge) was built in the late 14th century. Heavily fortified on both ends, it was built with five arches the longest span being 40 m (131 ft). Since the city is protected on three sides by a natural moat, the Tagus River, the north side required fortification. The Romans had originally built the northern wall in 674 AD, and it was later reconstructed by the Visigoth king Wamba. Though there are remains of the original Roman wall, the majority of the structure is of Muslim origin. There is a nice walk atop the wall from the Puente de San Martín to one of the city gates, the 16th century Puerta de Cambrón where we reentered the old city.
'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.' ~ Marcel Proust, writer, Paris, 1871-1922. My photographs are not merely a record of what was before my camera, but rather my visualization of the place and time as I remember discovering it, be it a particular mood, impression, or ambiance. These images may bring back memories of your own travels or they might inspire, you in some small way to venture off and maybe discover exciting, new landscapes of your own. But in the meantime, consider placing one of these photographs on your wall as a window to foreign lands. A note to those who purchase one of my images, you have my deepest thanks. I am honored that you have chosen one of my photographs...
