Description
The buildings surrounding the Place de la Comédie, a large pedestrian plaza surrounded by historic buildings, alfresco cafe seating & street artists located right in the middle of the former Medieval quarter of Montpellier, France, are typical from the 19th century. The rich and fine Haussmann style architecture almost creates a distinctive Parisian urban atmosphere.
Named after the Theatre “Opéra Comédie” located on the square’s South-West side, the Place de la Comédie is also a venue for major events within the city, holding concert during the “Fetes de la Musique” or a beautiful Xmas market “Marché de Noël”. The Place is also a short walk to the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle located at the Eastern part of the square. Dated from 1900 the esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle is a wide and beautiful garden with sculptures, water ponds and plenty of locals laying out under the shady branches of the plane trees.
