Description
Gargoyles (Fr. Gargouilles) removed from Toulouse's ancient Augustinian convent now a a fine arts museum - Musée des Augustins. The building in which the museum is housed was built in 1309 in the Gothic style. These gargoyles, now oriented vertically for display rather than horizontally, formerly carried water from roof gutters away from the building’s walls. Gargoyles are a form of sculpture that carry water, while carved creatures that do not are merely grotesques
