Description
Entrance to Palazzo Bianchi on Piazza Sordello, the oldest square in Mantua, Italy. The palace originally belonged to the Mantuan family of the Agnelli, and the building, next to the cathedral, was built in the mid- eighteenth century replacing two existing buildings.
The Piazza Sordello was probably the location of an Etruscan town and then later a Roman city, has always been a center of the Mantuan community. The existing layout, established during Medieval times, is thanks to the Gonzaga family whose immense living quarters, fronted by the Palazzo Ducale, frame the east side.
