Description
A Dead Eye was part of the standing rigging. Triple deadeyes were used in pairs placed in the shrouds to hold up the mast. They provided a mechanical advantage to create greater tension in the shrouds. The Götheborg III, is a replica of the Götheborg I of the Swedish East India Company, launched in 1738. The Götheborg I sank outside Gothenburg, Sweden in 1745. The Götheborg III is a full-rigged ship and carries ten tons of hemp ropes used for rigging the vessel, together with some 1,000 blocks and 1,964 m2 (21,140 sq ft) linen sail, all produced using 18th century techniques. It is one of the world's largest operational wooden sailing vessels.
