Description
In the ambulatory The Gothic Cathédrale Ste-Cécile of Albi, was constructed in brick, without flying buttresses in the 13th century in the heart of Cathar country. Perched high on a hill above the River Tarn, it looks more like a fortress than a cathedral and is considered the largest brick building in the world. However, inside it is a impressive and opulent medieval shrine. The walls, vault and side chapels are richly painted and decorated. The massive vaulted ceiling of the nave was painted at the same time as the Sistine Chapel
