The light from the stained-glass rose window of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Dalbade in Toulouse, France, paints its colors on the arches and walls of the sanctuary.
The church is located close to the Marche de Carmes market and not far from the banks of the Garonne River. It has a rather grand and somewhat austere exterior and dates to about 1480. Originally, the exterior was covered in lime, which gave it an immaculate whiteness, in tribute to the Virgin. It was built on the site of a previous church that was built in 541 and served for 900 years until it burned down in 1442. The current church originally had a bell tower that was 91m (~300ft) high and was the highest point in the city, visible from everywhere. However, the tower inexplicably collapsed in 1926, causing much damage to the church and local houses. The tower was never replaced but, due to the damage caused, the interior was completely restored resulting in a 15th century exterior and a 20th century.
'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.' ~ Marcel Proust, writer, Paris, 1871-1922. My photographs are not merely a record of what was before my camera, but rather my visualization of the place and time as I remember discovering it, be it a particular mood, impression, or ambiance. These images may bring back memories of your own travels or they might inspire, you in some small way to venture off and maybe discover exciting, new landscapes of your own. But in the meantime, consider placing one of these photographs on your wall as a window to foreign lands. A note to those who purchase one of my images, you have my deepest thanks. I am honored that you have chosen one of my photographs...
