Description
Sheep lie about in a pasture in Lancashire, England with a view of Pendle Hill, an isolated hill, sitting 557 m (1827 ft) above sea level, which makes it nearly as high as any point in the Forest of Bowland, in the Southern Pennines region or range of Lancashire.
The Hill is famous for being the birthplace of the Society of Friends (Quaker Movement), but it is perhaps the most famous hill in Lancashire due to its association with the Pendle witches, a story of intrigue and witchcraft nearly 400 years old.
In 1612, a dozen people were accused of using witchcraft to murder ten of their neighbors. Two men and nine women, all from the Pendle Hill area were tried, and ten were eventually found guilty and hanged.
